Given the opportunity to donate £2,000 of your company’s profits, where would you choose?
Working for Warwick Events, a strong part of our ethos is to give back to the local community. As a Certified B Corporation, we’ve confirmed this pledge by committing to donate a percentage of our profits to deserving causes. As a core team of three, we each decide how to spend our third. This March, I chose ‘The Shakespeare Hospice’.
When I visited the Shakespeare Hospice
Having visited the hospice, I was overcome with how cheerful and relaxed the hospice felt, despite all that their clients and families are being supported through. A team of nurses and staff also offer amazing hospice at-home support and transitional care for young people with life-limiting illnesses.
The Children and Family Support Service
Our gift has gone towards the Children and Family Support Service. When children and young people face a bereavement, the hospice is there for them. They give 1:1 support, group sessions and support through social activities such as this recent tree planting event plus training to teachers to help guide young people. Understanding you’re not alone and having help to navigate through such challenging times – is something I want to support.
A service we all wish isn’t needed. But sadly it is, every day. I know two families who have benefited from this; I know members of staff who work or have worked there; and when I worked as a teacher in a local school, we referred children here.
The NHS is only able to give 11% of the funding the hospice needs to run its services. So, while only a drop in the ocean, I’m proud that Warwick Events has been able to give a gift to help run their Children’s & Family Support service for a week.
